In the third grade, I was introduced to a book of poems by Shel Silverstein entitled “Where the Sidewalk Ends.” It was an entertaining book with wacky poems that were very catchy and fun. My teacher would read us 1 poem after recess every day. This was a highlight for me. After returning from the hot playground, our classroom was so nice and cool. My teacher would leave the lights off and begin to read to us. It was the perfect environment.
A couple of years ago, because of the fond memories attached to this book and because I liked the unique poems, it was on my Christmas list, something that gets distributed to my family every year. I am happy to say I am a proud owner of “Where the Sidewalk Ends.” Reading the book as an adult, I’ve realized that some of the poems are a bit odd. Ok, really bizarre at times but regardless, it’s a fun book. After starting this blog, I remembered that there are quite a bit of “food” poems suitable for a food blog in this book. Here are a few of my favorites!
Eighteen luscious, scrumptious flavors-
Chocolate, lime and cherry,
Coffee, pumpkin, fudge-banana,
Caramel cream and boysenberry,
Rocky road and toasted almond,
Butterscotch, vanilla dip,
Butter-brickle, apple ripple,
Coconut and mocha chip,
Brandy peach and lemon custard,
Each scoop lovely, smooth, and round,
Tallest ice-cream cone in town,
Lying there (sniff) on the ground.
