Seaweed Flavor Lays Chips? Yes, in Thailand!

I love potato chips.  I try not to eat them because I’ll probably end up eating the whole bag.  It’s so wonderful how they have so many different flavors of chips nowadays.  There was BBQ, Sour Cream and Onion, Nacho Doritos, Cool Ranch Doritos, Regular Lays Chips, Fritos and Tortilla chips back in the day.  Choices were so simple back then.  Of course, there may have been more but when I was a child, that’s all I knew.  I was not a fan of Fritos or the Regular Lays.  In a multi-pack, guaranteed, Fritos and the Lays would be leftover at my house.  All the other flavors were about the same in “likes.”  Now, they have too many flavors for me to even list in this article.  They even have just a chip aisle at the grocery store that is pretty much one whole side of an aisle!  I must say, thank goodness for baked chips.  I personally don’t really see a huge difference but if you look at the calorie and fat content, you’d probably grab a baked chip bag as well.

Potato chips can be found pretty much anywhere in the world.  The most cool thing is depending on the country you visit, there are different flavored chips that are specialized to the particular region.  I did a web search for some unique flavor chips around the world.  Here’s a list of what I found: Bloody Mary, Honey Glazed Ham, Hotdog, Prawn Cocktail, Hot Chili Squid, Octopus, Beef and Onion, Roasted Chicken, Smoky Bacon, Teriyaki Mayonnaise.  Before you make any judgement, just remember that there may be some things we eat in the States that people in other parts of the world may find unique.  To see which country you can get these chips at the next time you’re traveling around the world, click here.

About 2 years ago when I visited Thailand with ZOE on a mission trip with my husband, I was given some amazing chips that I am now a huge fan of.  It is Nori Seaweed Flavored Lays (nori is seaweed in Japanese).  They are so good.  I grew up eating seaweed so when I saw this, I was so exctied!  It’s basically regular Lay’s potato chips sprinkled with little flakes for seaweed. I think that the packaging is funny as well.  If you look at the bottom left corner of the bag, they put a picture of some sushi rolls.  I guess this is so people know what seaweed is.  One thing that’s a bummer about these bags of chips is that even though the bag is super puffy, there’s literally like only 10 chips inside.  I know they have to make the bag puffy so that the chips don’t get smashed but still!  That’s all?   I wish they would put more in but perhaps that’s why people in Thailand are so thin…the bags we have here in the States are too big!
